Your choice of laser should be based upon your application, or how you intend to use it.

• If you want to treat superficial conditions such as skin and wound care, acne, burns and wrinkles then choose a red light laser.
• If you want to treat musculoskeletal conditions, soft tissue injuries, repetitive strain disorders, arthritis and joint pain then choose an infrared laser. No not an infrared light. Choose a true, coherent, columnated infrared laser in the 808-905nm spectrum with an output of 200-500mW of power.

Choosing a healing laser or therapeutic laser is a lot like choosing an automobile or a house.

It’s all about options, features, quantity (of diodes), size (power of diodes), color (color or type of diode) and price.

Now let’s take a closer look at these options and features and see how we can use them to better determine, which therapeutic laser is right for you.

Quantity of diodes: How many does it have. How much surface area do you want to cover. A single diode is ideal for treatment of small spots or acupuncture points. The more diodes, the larger the treatment area.

Size in this case equals power of the diodes: How much power, which is measured in MilliWatts (mW) does the laser put out. More is not always better, however higher power does mean faster treatment times. Lower power of 5 mW per diode is good for unwinding stress out of the body. Higher power is good for driving photons deeper into the body faster, such as in the treatment of acupuncture points. 500mW is the maximum power you can safely get out of a continuous wave cold laser. A superpulsed laser can utilize diodes up to 30,000 mW (30 Watts) and still be safe and gentle, yet deliver photons to the deepest levels for saturation of target tissues in bones, tendons, ligaments, muscles and tissue.

Color = Type of Diode: True laser diodes work faster and more effectively than Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs), however lasers such as the Q1000 laser and the TerraQuant Laser that use a combination of both true laser diodes and LEDs are popular and very effective. These days there are green lasers, blue diodes, red lasers and infrared lasers that we here about most. So how do you know which ones will be right for you? It’s quite easy actually. Red and Infrared light lasers have a 35 year proven track record and have the most testing behind them to backup their valid use in medicine and healing. A red light laser while popular has the distinct disadvantage of minimal penetration, limited to the surface of the skin and below 1/4″-1/2″.

Infrared (IR) lasers come in 4 main varieties: continuous wave, pulsed wave, superpulsed wave and IRDs, which technically are not lasers. Infrared lasers tend to be much more powerful than red lasers and they deliver photonic energy faster and deeper, which is ideal for treatment of musculoskeletal conditions, soft tissue injuries and repetitive strain disorders. The top runners up for treatment of musculoskeletal conditions, soft tissue injuries and repetitive strain disorders are the 200-500 mW continuous wave, infrared cold lasers in the 808-875 nm range and the Supurpulsed lasers utilizing galium arsenide 25-30,000 mW diodes in the 904-905 nm range

Price: Oddly enough, several high profile laser manufacturers tout their 5 mW, 2 and 4 diode lasers as the ultimate laser for treating all conditions, at the tune of over $6K-$16K. This is just ridiculous. You can get a much better and more versatile laser for significantly less money. Don’t be fooled by a dog and pony show. Stick with the category of therapeutic laser that fits your needs and budget.

Recently some Enagic™ or Kangen™ reps have been attacking the Biostone filter. They are claiming that because the Biostone contains tourmaline, and one of the building blocks of tourmaline is aluminum, that ipso facto! the Biostone filter releases aluminum into the drinking water. Nothing could be further from the truth, but then again, some Enagic™ reps do not always perpetrate the facts accurately or correctly – especially when it comes to Jupiter. The report was sent to us and permission was granted to use the data.

You can see on the report that the untreated control sample of water had a significant amount of Aluminum:

Aluminum 438 ugl (micrograms or parts per billion); and that the Biostone filtered it down to less than was detectable <30 ugl.

The US EPA standard on Aluminum is .05 to 0.2 mgl or milligrams per liter. That would be 150ugl allowable. A microgram is 1/1000^th of a milligram. 30ugl is a level so small it can not be detected.

So you can see that the statements made or questions raised by some Enagic™ or Kangen™ reps are completely without merit.

This is one more example of how Enagic distributors perpetrate misinformation, half truths and outright fallacies.

To take this one step further, lets discuss tourmaline and why it is in the Biostone Filter in the first place.

Tourmaline is technically classified in the mineral group as a semi-precious gemstone of the silicate family. The term silicate is used to denote types of rock that consist predominantly of silicate minerals.

Two of the main building blocks of tourmaline are aluminum and boron which are bonded to form a trigonal crystal system which occurs as long, prismatic and columnar crystals.

This bonding effect which creates crystalline Tourmaline results in a very hard material with a hardness rating of 7-7.5 on the Mohs scale. To put its hardness into perspective, iron is a 4Mohs, and titanium is a 6Mohs – tourmaline being considerably harder than either. It is so hard in fact it retains its properties under enormous pressure and up to 600 degrees C.

The tourmaline in the Biostone filter is put into a ceramic bead form. Ceramic is completely non reactive and non leaching. Many water filters employ ceramic media.

So we can say for certain given the structure and hardness of tourmaline, the fact it is in ceramic and the attached test results, that no aluminum is released in to the water.

Further we can show with certainty that the Biostone filter actually reduces Aluminum so significantly it is below the detectable levels.

So why is tourmaline in the Biostone? Tourmaline has the unique property of emitting a natural form of FIR or Far Infra Red energy. The prefix ‘infra’ means ‘below’ and refers to the wavelengths that are just below the red end of the visible spectrum, hence ‘infra-red’. FIR produces a form of radiant heat which is simply a form of energy that heats an object directly, without having to heat the surrounding air. The radiant properties of Infra-red occupies the portion of the electromagnetic spectrum between visible light and radio waves. There are many, many health products that employ FIR, including many water products. Water can absorb infrared rays from an external source. This phenomenon is called “resonant absorption.” This absorbtion of the electromagnetic frequencies of FIR has an immediate and unique effect on the water, energizing the water, reducing surface tension and “conditioning” it prior to ionization.

Good questions deserve good answers, so I asked the pros.

I personally know the two people responsible for bringing first rate water ionizers from the world’s largest water ionization company to the US. They are the exclusive direct importers of the world’s largest water ionizer manufacturer and here is what they shared with me.

The word “Kangen” in Japanese means “return to origin” and in USA is used by Enagic as a marketing term.Enagic is a Multi-level marketing company that sells water ionizers. Enagic to our knowledge does not manufacture ionizers and bought the marketing rights to a product line manufactured by Toyo Industries. Toyo is a Japanese company that had a long and successful history manufacturing water ionizers. Interestingly enough, original patents came though a level of collaboration between Jupiter Science and Toyo in the development of the first titanium/platinum electrodes.

Rather than being sold through the internet or actual retail stores, Enagic products are sold by MLM “Reps” who typically do not have a thorough technical understanding of the properties of water, ionization and how the two together produce health benefits. I am sure there are exceptions – reps who have really rolled up their sleeves and educated themselves.The fact remains that we have heard a lot of “bogus” info from people who have been to Enagic presentations. Going to a few MLM presentations does not make one an expert in something, especially something as complex and technical as ionization. It appears that Enagic “reps” are often innocently fed misinformation and led to believe in half truths. Then these misinformed “reps”, who are motivated by the MLM dream, go forth and perpetrate these inaccuracies and mislead naïve customers into falsely thinking they are getting the best possible value for the extra $2000.

IonLife believes wholeheartedly in giving good, sound information and encouraging our potential customers to do their own investigating. When they do, they most often come back and purchase a Jupiter water ionizer and save +or- a thousand dollars or so.In approximately 2000, Enagic purchased the right to sell a re-branded version of the old Toyo Pure Porte II. The Pure Porte was state of the art technology at the time it was released into the market somewhere around 8-10 years ago. The unit has not seen significant improvement since then and technologically has been surpassed. Enagic’s low end model, the Leveluk DX sells for approximately $3,200, the mid-level unit the Leveluk DX II sells for $4,500, and the high end unit the Super 501 sells for $6,400. Enagic units are the only ionizers on the market which cost that much. The price of these models has more to do with compensating the Enagic MLM reps than the actual cost or the comparative technology inherent in their ionizers. To verify that simply ask Enagic about their compensation plan and see how much money is paid to the various levels of the network organization when one machine is sold.

Remember that this technology is virtually unknown here in the US, so most people investigating it are hearing the story of ionization for the first time. This makes them particularly vulnerable to the misinformation approach. This approach is bad for our industry as a whole. A good example would be the claim many Enagic reps make regarding its status as a medical device. Enagic reps often claim its unit has this exclusive status. More correctly, ionization, as a technology, is classified by the Japanese Ministry of Health as a medical device. An example of a similar situation would be x-ray machines. X-ray machines are approved by our FDA as a medical device; yet there are many manufacturers of x-ray technology and products. A specific product can be registered, and many ionizers have this type of registration.

Another common bit of misinformation is that “bigger is better” when discussing plate or electrode size. The plate is the part inside the water cell which delivers the electrical current to the water. Enagic reps collectively hammer the point that their units have larger and more plates than most other models. Consider technology as a whole: can you think of even one technology that gets larger as it gets more advanced? Think of computers and cell phones for example. High power requirement is detrimental to plate life due to the increase stress load. Many reps also claim that Enagic is the only company to electroplate the platinum onto the titanium plates. Really?

All Jupiter plates are manufactured using electroplating. Jupiter’s latest models employ a cutting edge mesh or waffle plating process that effectively increases surface area while decreasing the size and power consumption. These new plates are smaller than old Jupiter plates yet more effective in delivering the current into the water.

To be objective the Enagic Models are good machines. They produce good levels of pH and ORP, comparable to the performance of our Jupiter Melody. We have seen these models tested side by side, which is the only salient way to compare the performance of ionizers. Enagic reps often claim absolute pH and ORP numbers which is NEVER true due the highly variable nature of the mineral content of the source water – which is a key factor in performance. Enagic marketing focuses on the acidic water (unlike the rest of the industry). The Enagic units utilize a saline injection system (an ongoing cost) to produce super low pH water. Jupiter’s answer to super low pH: add plain old rock salt to the calcium port into your Jupiter model (Melody, Aquarius and Orion) and set to low acid. In my side by side testing the Melody hit 2.4 pH. We are happy to test performance anywhere, anytime against any Enagic machine.

Here are some points to consider in comparing Enagic to Jupiter:

Enagic units have been passed by in technology and features, and they cost more not because they are a better product, but rather because they are sold through an MLM.
